ESTHER JENSEN SORENSEN RASMUSSEN

Esther Bernice Jensen Sorensen Rasmusssen, 87, died Aug. 3, 1988 in the Blair Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Esther Rasmussen was born on March 1, 1901 to Lars and Ane Jensen at Kennard, Nebraska. At the age of three, she was adopted by Jens and Lena Sorensen of Orum after her parents died. She attended Orum grade school.

In 1919 she married Robert Henry Rasmussen, son of Peter and Elsie Rasmussen. They farmed in the Orum area for many years. In 1948 they moved to Blair.

Esther was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Blair and was active in women’s circle. She was a charter member of the Hillside Extension Club for over 60 years. She also was a member of Rebekah Lodge and past noble grand.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, an infant son, two sisters and five brothers.

Survivors are two sons, Robert Harold and his wife, Mary of Blair; James Dean and his wife Ann of Poteet, Texas; daughter Elaine Hinton and husband Robert of Phoenix, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Owen Nelsen and his wife June of North Platte, Nebraska; and a sister-in-law, Leona Jensen of Blair who is now residing at the Good Shepherd Home.

Services were held at First Lutheran Church on Saturday August 6 at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Orum Cemetery with Rev. Linda Walz officiating and assisted by Florence Hansen.
