Memorial services for E. Donald Andersen, 78, of rural Herman, will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2002, at the Herman Legion Hall. Interment of his cremains will be in the Herman Cemetery. Mr. Andersen died Feb. 26, at his home three miles outside of Herman.

E. Donald Andersen was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Herman to Chris and Caroline (Kay) Andersen. He lived all his life in the Herman area. He attended Brodersen School until the eighth grade, then attended New England for two years.

He became a farmer, first with his father, then on his own.

On June 28, 1962, he married Catherine Samuelson in Omaha.

Although raised and baptized as a Lutheran, after marriage, he was baptized as a Baptist. He attended Herman Church even when his wife had to work on Sundays. Mr. Andersen served on several church committees.

He loved camping and riding bicycles in the park on weekends, reading hunting and fishing magazines and doing woodwork. Mr. and Mrs. Andersen also enjoyed square dancing, which they did for 20 years, and eating and playing cards with friends and relatives.

He enjoyed family gatherings, which included his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tim Lastovica of Omaha, and son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Rae Day Andersen of Herman, 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and Clifford Larsen of Blair, two aunts, and many cousins and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Herman Church, Church Youth Center, or Herman Rescue Squad.
