Clifford M. 'Cliff' Gray, 74

Clifford M. "Cliff" Gray, 74, of Blair, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

There will be no services. His body was donated to Creighton Medical Center in Omaha.

Clifford M. "Cliff" Gray was born Feb. 13, 1939, to William and Elizabeth (Finch) Gray in Omaha. At the age of four, he was sent to his paternal grandparents, Henry and Bertha Gray, to be raised.

He grew up in the Florence area and attended North High School.

He worked at several jobs in the north Omaha area, being hired on by the Vickers/Eaton Corporation located on 72nd and Crown Point Avenue in 1967. He remained as a "Vickers-holic", working as many as 72 hours a week for 32 years. He retired in January 2001 when the plant closed.

During retirement, Mr. Gray worked several part-time jobs, including the weekly deliveries of the Employment Guide to five area towns.

In 1967, he married Sylvia Roberson of Omaha. They had two daughters. The couple divorced in 1976.

In 1979, he met and quickly married Juanita Long of LaVista. From this union, three daughters were born.

On Mr. Gray's 65th birthday, he received word that he had esophageal cancer. He fought the disease, giving him another 9 1/2 years. During those years, he was able to see his three youngest daughters get married, and he became the grandfather of three, something he greatly cherished.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Gray of Blair; five daughters, Machelle Burkhardt, Laurie Gray and Sherry Jantz, all of Omaha, Lucinda Broady from Olathe, Kan., and Kristina Roberts of Blair; three grandchildren, and mother-in-law, Fern Long.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
