PIONEER LADY PASSES

The sad news of the death of Mrs. Margaret Palmer was carried to friends this morning, she having passed away at eleven o’clock Wednesday night, Jan. 23 following an illness of several weeks duration.

Margaret Davis was born in Bally Kelly, Ireland, Nov. 19, 1843 and was, therefore, past eighty years of age at the time of her death.

She came, with her parent and one sister, to America when about eight years old, the family settling first in Tennessee, then in Illinois and later in Nebraska at Schuyler in Colfax county.

She was married Jan. 25, 1872 to Dr. W. H. Palmer and they lived a few months at Greenriver, Ill., coming to Blair in the fall of 1872.

The family consisted of five daughters, two dying in infancy. Those living are Elizabeth, Mrs. George Williams, of Kingsville, Texas, Josephine, Mrs. Gunnar Wingard of Tacoma, Washington and Ruth, Mrs. R. J. Murdoch, of this city, with whom the deceased has made her home for the past few years. The death of Mr. Palmer occurred May 31, 1922.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at three o’clock from the home of Dr. R. J. Murdoch and Rev. James McKeeman of the Congregational church will officiate. Mrs. Wingard will arrive Saturday evening from Tacoma to be present at the services.

Mrs. Palmer will ever be remembered by her intimate friends and acquaintances as a woman of keen intellect and of deep appreciation for the higher and better things of life. She was for years actively identified with the Presbyterian church work of this city of which organization she was a faithful member. She was a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star and for many years took a keen interest in the literary work of the Monday Afternoon Club.

She was an ideal mother and companion and when there was illness or distress in the neighborhood she was always ready to lend a helping hand.

The familyhave the sympathy of friends and neighbors in their bereavement.
