Arthur Panning, 87

Arthur G. Panning, 87 of Fremont died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at the Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont.

Services were Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Hooper. Rev. Rodney Meske officiated. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Mr. Panning was born May 20, 1910, near Altona, Neb., in Wayne County to Fred.G. and Emma (Pflueger) Panning. He was baptized on June 10, 1910, and confirmed on April 13, 1924. At the age of five, he moved with his family to a farm near Hooper. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School east of Winslow and graduated from the Hooper High School. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army from 1941 through 1945. On June 4, 1944, he married Meta Wende in Cisco, Tex. In 1946, they moved to a farm in the Hooper area and farmed until 1978, when they retired and moved into Fremont.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he had served as an elder, a trustee and on various other boards and committees of the church. He was also a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League and had been a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Fremont.

Survivors are his wife, Meta; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Nancy Panning of Hooper and Glen and Barbara Panning of Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren and two brothers, Victor Panning and Theodore Panning, both of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Rabe Suhr, Esther Stong and Leona Kuhls and a brother, Irvin Panning.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
