Luverna M. Panning, 86, of Fremont, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at the Nye Point Health & Rehab Center in Fremont.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Interment was in Fremont’s Memorial Cemetery.

Luverna Marie (Stork) Panning was born March 1, 1919, in the farm home of Edward W. C. and Emma (Laaker) Stork, near Arlington. She was baptized March 23, 1919, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Arlington, and confirmed in 1933 at St. Paul’s.

She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Brinkman High School, and graduated from Arlington High School in 1937.

On Sept. 24, 1939, she married Allerd W. Panning at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The couple farmed the Panning farmstead, located east of Winslow, until December 1952 when they moved to Hooper. They owned and operated the Main Street Café in Hooper for many years. In September of 1973, they moved to Fremont, where Mrs. Panning was a cook at the Pathfinder Hotel and then at the Holiday Lodge. She retired in 1987.

She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont, where she participated in the Tabitha Society and Grand Generation.

She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, LaRae and Marvin Plessing of Hooper, Ardeth and Leon Blomendahl of Fremont, Marilyn Jahnke of Lexington, Eileen and Ed Soll of Tucson, Ariz., Lee and Donna Panning of Fremont, Ellie and Bob Bockholt of Littleton, Colo., and Linda and Rick Hyson of Catlett, VA.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Florence Panning of Hooper and Marge Stork of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her husband Allerd, in 1974; brother, Clarence Stork; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith and George Sanderson, Bernice and Jerome Groenthal, Floma and Arthur Hagerbaumer; son-in-law, Deloy Jahnke; and two infant grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
