Theodore W. Panning, 92

Former Fremont resident, Theodore W. Panning, 92, of Scribner, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Winslow, with the Rev. Rodney Meske officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.

Theodore Panning was born on Aug. 28, 1908, to Fred and Emma (Pflueger) Panning in Altona.

He lived his early years in Altona, then moved to a farm east of Winslow with his family. He graduated from Hooper High School in 1928.

On Feb. 11, 1934, he married Norma Moll at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Winslow.

They lived and farmed on his family farm until moving into Fremont in 1976. His wife, Norma, died on Dec. 29, 1977.

On June 25, 1978, he was married to Bernadine Doering Ruff in Fremont. Bernadine preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 1995.

Mr. Panning was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Hooper, its Lutheran Laymen’s League, and he held various offices of the church.

He was the last charter member of Fremont’s Golden ‘K’ Kiwanis Club. He was active in golf and bowling.

He is survived by a brother, Victor, of Fremont; two step daughters, Verlaine (Mrs. Don) Mundy and Sharon (Mrs. Dick) Housser, both of Fremont; a step son, Derold Ruff of Scribner; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Meta and Edna Panning, a brother-in-law, John Suhr; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harland and Darlene Moll, and Howard and Beth Moll, all of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his wives; an infant daughter, brothers Art and Irvin, sisters, Ruth Rabe Suhr, Esther Strong and Leona Kuhls.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
