J. A. *Pardew died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. A. Wentworth, last Thursday and the funeral was held at the Baptist Church at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. C.M. Foreman officiating. Interment was made in the Blair Cemetery by the side of his wife, who passed away about two years ago. Besides Mrs. Wentworth he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Nancy Van Alstine, of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Jennie Grave, of Basset, Neb.; Eli, of West Virginia; C. M., of Edwardsville, Kans.; Ephraim, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Robert, of Waldon, Colo. and Newton, of Nevada, Ia. He was born in Surry County, N. C. June 2nd, 1836, and was therefore past 79 years of age. He was married in the same county to Miss Minda Gray on Feb. 18th, 1857.
