Parish, Ambrose H.

Ambrose H. Parish, the third son of John G. and Margaret Parish, was born in Iowa county, Wisconsin, on the 25th day of June 1840, and died at his late home in Blair, Nebraska, aged 82 years, 8 months and 13 days. He was married to Miss Anna Tepier December 25, 1861, to which union five children were born, Edwin J., Freeman L., and Mrs. Cora McKeen, of this city and Mrs. Ida J. Freeland, of Chicago, all of whom with the wife of 62 years, were at his bedside when he breathed his last. One child, Orville, died in infancy. One the 11th day of August, 1862, Mr. Parish enlisted to serve three years of the Civil War and was mustered into the United States service at Camp Randall, Wis., on the 18 day of the same month as a private in Co. B 20th Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He was honorably discharged from the service at Galveston, Texas, July 14, 1865, six brothers of this honored family having served the government during this war. The deceased came to Nebraska in 1873 and settled first on a farm in Fillmore county coming to Blair in the fall of 1882, where he has since made his home. The deceased became a member of the local M. E. Church February 10, 1895, under the pastorate of the Rev. G.H. Main. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J.A. Johnson at the residence of Mrs. Cora McKeen, at 2:30 Monday afternoon.

Ambrose H. Parish was born in Iowa county, Wisconsin on June 25, 1850, and died at his home in Blair on Saturday, March 10, 1923, being thus past 82 years of age.

He was married to Miss Anna Tepier December 25, 1861, and to this union five children were born: Edwin J., Freeman L. and Mrs. Cora McKeen of this city and Mrs. Ida J. Freeland of Chicago, all of whom, with the devoted wife, were at his bedside when he passed away.

Mr. Parish enlisted in the Union army on August 11, 1862, and was mustered into the service at Camp Randall, Wis. on the 18th day of the same month, and was later honorably discharged from the service at Galveston, Texas July 14, 1865. Six brothers of this family served their country through the Civil war.

In the year 1873 the deceased came to Nebraska, settling first on a farm in Fillmore county and later in 1882 came to Blair where he has since made his home.

As a citizen there is naught of reproach can be said of him, as a neighbor there could be no better, and as a man all we can say is that he lived a life removed from reproach, setting an example that we would all do well to emulate.

The funeral services were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. McKeen of this city on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
