HANS RATHJEN BURIED, SPENT LIFETIME ON FT. CALHOUN FARM

Services for Hans Henry Rathjen were held on Monday, July 9. He passed away on July 5, at the Memorial Hospital in Blair at the age of 88 years, after a lengthy illness of 2 ½ years.

Mr. Rathjen was born July 15, 1884, to Jacob and Margaret Rathjen on a farm southwest of Fort Calhoun,, Nebraska. He lived there all his life.

On February 28, 1917, he was married to Katherine Frahm.

He spent most of his life farming, but he took a course in Veterinary Dentistry at the Omaha Veterinary Dental College and received his degree of veterinary Dentistry on the 16 day of May, 1906. For many years he cared for the dental health of horses in his community. He also served on the school board about 28 years.

He is survived by his wife Katherine; four daughters, Mrs. George (Marjorie) Flink, Omaha; Faith, Omaha; Vernice, Blair; Helen, Calhoun; and one son, Ralph, Calhoun.

Services were held Monday afternoon at the Ft. Calhoun Presbyterian Church with Rev. William Mulford conducting the service. The Sievers Fuenral home was in charge of arrangements with burial in the Ft. Calhoun Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Harold Swanson, Ed Lorenzen, William Burmeister, Alvin Ohrt, Arthur Henricksen, Otto Fuhrman, all of Calhoun.
