H.J. Raver died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Luse, last Sunday and the funeral was held at the Methodist church at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, Rev. W.H. Underwood officiating. Mr. Raver was born in Centre county, Pennsylvania, August 24th, 1836, and was therefore in his 81st year. He was married to Sarah Mann in Linn county, Iowa, Nov. 27th, 1857, and came to this county in 1859, settling first on a farm on the bottoms north of town, later moving onto the farm upon which he died. Three years ago he and his wife moved to this city and she died the 2nd of last January. He is survived by five children, S.A. Raver of Ainsworth; Mrs. May B. Heath of Craig; Adelbert; Mrs. Geo. Luse and Mrs. Dave Steed of this county. Also a brother, Wm. A. Raver of this city. As a pioneer settler he did his bit to help make this county what it is today, the fairest and fattest in the state.

Ham Raver, a pioneer settler of Washington County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Luce, on last Sunday morning, the cause assigned being simply of old age.

Mr. Raver was born in Pennsylvania in the year of 1836 thus being eighty-one years of age at his death. He was married to Miss Sarah Mann in eastern Iowa in 1857 and together they came to this county in 1859, settling on the farm west of Blair where they lived until a few years ago when they moved to Blair to enjoy the fruits of their labor in their old age.

Mrs. Raver preceded her husband to the great beyond some months ago and since that time he has made his home with his children who have shown him every kindness possible for loving hearts and willing hands to do and he has had every wish gratified that he has expressed. Funeral services were held on last Monday afternoon at three o’clock at the Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Underwood and interment was made in the Blair Cemetery where the body was followed by a large concourse of friends and relatives.

Five children, Steve of Ainsworth, Mrs. May B. Heath of Craig, and Delbert, Laura Steed and Dora M. Luce of this county, are left to grieve the loss of a kind and loving father.

H. J. Raver Pioneer Resident Passes To Great Beyond

H. J. Raver, one of the oldest pioneers of Washington County, passed away Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Luse, three miles west of Blair, of infirmities due to old age.

Mr. Raver was born in Pennsylvania in 1836. He was married in eastern Iowa in 1857 to Miss Sarah Mann, coming to Washington County in 1859. Mrs. Raver died in January of this year. He leaves to mourn his demise two sons and three daughters. They are S. A. Raver, of Ainsworth, Nebr., Mrs. Mar B. Heath of Craig, Neb., Adelbert Raver, Mrs. Dora M. Luce and Laura Steed, of this county.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Underwood from the M. E. Church at 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon and the remains were laid in their last resting place in the Blair Cemetery.
