Meta Martens Dies Monday In Fremont

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 25, at 2 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church in Fremont for Mrs. Meta M. Martens, 87, who died Monday, March 23, 1981, at Memorial Hospital in Fremont.

Rev. John W. Swearingin will conduct the services. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

The casket will not be open for viewing.

Meta M. Martens was born August 22, 1893, in Kennard to August and Anna Mathiesen Kahnk. She married Hans Martens on December 20, 1916, in Elkhorn. The couple, who formerly lived in Craig, had lived in the Fremont area since 1929, farmed northeast of Fremont.

She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Fremont and the American Legion Auxiliary in Colon, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hans, who died October 30, 1971. Her parents; brothers, Art, John, Gus, and Albert; and sisters, Anna, Margaret and Lillian, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons Marvin Martens, Colon; and Elmer Martens, Fremont. Two sisters, Mrs. Marie Taylor, Sacramento, California, and Mrs. Ralph (Clara) Bixby, Fullton, California; two brothers, Harry Kahnk, Cedar Bluffs, and Louis Kahnk, Omaha; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews also survive her.

Memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Church, Fremont Emmanuel Baptist Church, Mead; or the Cancer Fund.

Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont, is in charge of arrangements for the services.
