HENRY RAVER DIES OF BURNS WHILE BLASTING

NATIVE OF WASHINGTON COUNTY SUCCUMBS TUESDAY MORNING

Henry G. Raver, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Raver, died Tuesday morning as the result of burns incurred last Thursday while blasting out stumps on the home farm northwest of Blair.

He had purchased some blasting powder Thursday of last week for the purpose of blasting out a few stumps at the edge of the cornfield and had placed a charge of the blasting powder at the base of a stump. This failed to explode and when he went to examine it, the explosion came, setting his clothing on fire. He received third degree burns and was immediately rushed to the hospital but medical skill failed to save his life.

Deceased was born on the farm in the Glendale school district May 24, 1870, where he resided until 1914 when the family moved to Blair. The father died in 1918 and ten years later the mother passed on.

Henry and his sister, Miss Anna Raver, have continued to live in the home on South Street since that time.

A brother, Dr. Charles Raver of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and the sister survive besides a number of other relatives. A niece, Mrs. K.M. Royer of Mayville, Wisconsin, came immediately and the brother and his wife of Canada are on their way and will be present at the funeral rites. Services are planned to be held on next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bendorf Funeral Home.

The taking of Henry Raver removes another of those early settlers who had gone through the hardships of those early days; he had been one who had helped develop the county and bring it to where it now is, and he will be greatly missed by a large circle of old acquaintances and friends.
