S. J. RAVER

S.J. Raver, son of Joshua Raver, was born southwest of Herman, November 6, 1878. He was reared to manhood by William Raver on the farm in the Glendale district.

On August 29, 1900, he was married to Miss Ella Skinner. As no children came to bless this union, two were adopted, John who is married and lives at Coin, Iowa, and Bertha, who is now thirteen years of age.

Mr. Raver was a man who had a host of friends. He was honorable in all his dealings, considerate of others and always ready to assist a neighbor.

He was taken sick two weeks ago and a physician was called who pronounced his ailment appendicitis. He underwent an operation although too ill to be taken to a hospital. He had every attention that could be obtained but to no avail and he passed away last Saturday morning.

The body was brought to the Wm. Raver home in this city on last Sunday morning and the funeral services conducted by Rev. Reese, of Herman, assisted by Rev. McProud of Blair, was held on Monday afternoon from the Raver home and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

The pall-bearers were relatives. He leaves to mourn him besides his wife, four brothers and one sister as follows: John, Beaurgard and Fritz, all of Pringle, South Dakota; Forest of Hot Springs, South Dakota; and Mrs. Alma Hill, of Ryegate, Montana.

S.J. Raver died at his home near Herman last Saturday following an operation for appendicitis on the Monday previous. The operation was performed too late, however, the appendix having bursted and trouble started that finally caused his death. The body was brought here Sunday and taken to the home of his aunt, Mrs. Wm. Raver, where the funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. T.J. Reese of Herman officiating, assisted by Rev. O.U. McProud. Burial was in the Raver lot in the Blair cemetery.

Jack, as he was familiarly known, was born on the farm where he died November 6th, 1878, so was not yet 46 years of age. When he was three years of age his mother suffered a paralytic stroke and he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Raver. He was married to Miss Ella Skinner August 29th, 1900, and they made their home on a portion of the old farm. They had no children of their own but had adopted one boy, John, who is now married and lives in Iowa, and a girl, Bertha, now 12 years of age. Besides his wife and these two adopted children, he leaves four brothers, John, Beauregard and Fritz, of Pringle, S.D., and Forrest, of Hot Springs, S.D. Also one sister, Mrs. Alma Hill of Ryegate, Mont.
