MRS. H.J. RAVER PASSES AWAY

Mrs. H.J. Raver died at the family home in this city, the 2nd inst. at 12 __M. after an illness of many months. Deceased was one of the pioneer women of Washington county, a kind and faithful wife and helpmeet and a devoted, loving mother.

Sarah Mann was born near Marion, Iowa, September 22, 1840, and was married there to H.J. Raver November 17, 1857, coming to Washington county in 1859 and located on the bottom near the Jake Goll place north of the present location of Blair, but a few years later removing to a location three miles west of this city where they remained until coming to Blair three years ago. Seven children were born to them: Stephen, residing in Brown county; Mrs. Mary B. Heath of Burt county; Adelbert, Mrs. Dora M. Luse, and Mrs. Laura C. Steed of this county.

All of the children and a large number of relatives of deceased were present at the funeral, which was held at the family home at 2 o’clock p.m. on Thursday, Rev. W.H. Underwood, pastor of the Methodist church officiating and…………. (The remainder is cut off.)

The funeral of Mrs. H.J. Raver was held at the family residence on east Washington street at 2 o’clock last Thursday afternoon, Rev. W.H. Underwood officiating. Mrs. Raver passed away at 12 o’clock Tuesday, Jan. 2nd, after an illness of several months of suffering with bronchitis and asthma.

Sarah Mann was born near Marion, Ia., Sept. 22nd, 1840, and was therefore past 76 years of age. She was married there to H.J. Raver, Nov. 17th, 1857, coming to this county two years later. They settled on the bottom north of town but a few years later moved to the old farm west of the city, which was their home until they moved to Blair three years ago.

She is survived by her husband and five children, Stephen, who lives in Brown county; Mrs. Mary Heath, of Burt county; and Adelbert, Mrs. Dora M. Luse, and Mrs. Laura C. Steed of this county. Also fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. H. J. Raver died Tuesday of ailments incident to old age. She was one of the oldest settlers in Washington County, coming here in 1859. Sarah Mann was born in Iowa, Sept. 22nd, 1840, and was married to H. J. Raver on Nov. 17, 1857. The deceased was the mother of seven children, five of who are living, S. A. Raver of Ainsworth, Nebr., Mrs. Mary B. Heath of Craig, Adelbert Raver, Mrs. Dora M. Luce and Mrs. Laura Steed of Washington County. The funeral was held from the family residence today at 2 p.m. and the remains were interred in the Blair Cemetery. The deceased was one of the most highly respected residents of the county and her death is a source of much regret to her many friends in Blair.
