ORVILLE RAWLINGS, 72

Services for Orville Rawlings, 72 who died June 22, 1992 at Mercy Care Center in Omaha are 10 a.m. today, Thursday, June 24 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Merlin Reith officiating. Burial will be in Flower Hill Cemetery.

Orville Rawlings was born in Page County, Iowa January 10, 1921. He was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarinda, Iowa and later transferred his membership to Zion Lutheran Church near Bennington.

He grew up on a farm in Page County and in his early teens worked with his grandfather, Joe Fulton in a coal mine near New Market, Iowa.

He married Carolyn Fishell in 1942. He served in the United States Army’s 89th Division for 3 ½ years, seeing duty in Europe for one year.

After farming for ten years, he and his family moved to the Bennington area and he became a carpenter. He worked until retirement for S & S Construction in Omaha.

He was an active member of American Legion Post No. 266 and an inactive member of the Bennington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a son, Orville Eugene; a daughter, Barbara Frostrom and a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Pete Bridgeford, all of Omaha; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Wasson, Darleen Stiverson and Flora Sheppard; a brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Clara Mae Rawlings and other relatives.

Hadan-Golden Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
