Lela R. Ray, 87, of Blair, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the Life Care Center of Elkhorn.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Lela Rose Nelson was born Feb. 8, 1922, at a home northwest of Blair to Nels and Esther (Barton) Nelson. She graduated from Blair High School in 1939.

On Dec. 9, 1945, she married Lyle Ray of Herman.

Mrs. Ray worked for ARTEX in Blair for several years, and at Young’s Café. She enjoyed cooking and raising her family of eight children.

She is survived by seven children and their spouses: Cheryl and Brad Stipp of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Dean and Carol Ray of Omaha; Gordy and Pamela Ray and Terry and Jean Ray, all of Blair; Jolene and Kevin Jacobs of Omaha; Patty and Dan Flynn and Steve and Sharon Ray, also of Blair; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Della Ray of Blair.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, and a daughter, Vicki Ray.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
