MARGARET E. RAY, 75

Former Herman resident Margaret E. Ray, 75 of Tekamah, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 18, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. Interment was in the Herman Cemetery.

Margaret E. Effken was born July 19, 1931, in Cook to Fred and Letta (Wendell) Effken. She and her family moved to Herman in 1937, where she helped her parents manage the Farmers Union Co-Op. She graduated from Herman High School in 1949, and earned her teaching certificate from Wayne State College.

On April 11, 1951, she married Hurley G. Ray in Madison. The couple made their home west of Herman, where they farmed. When they retired, they moved to Tekamah.

Mrs. Ray was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and doing ceramics.

She is survived by her husband Hurley; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark E. Ray of Omaha, John and Janelle Ray of Herman; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Doug Schroeder of West Point; six grandchildren and their families; five great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Robert Jensen of Moville, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Shirley Effken of Holland, Mich.; many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Ray.

Memorials are suggested to Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Tekamah Rescue Squad.

Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.
