#1-20 Nov., 1907 - The Pilot - John P. Wishart

John P. Wishart died Sunday noon, Nov. l7th, having been bedfast for about fourteen months with a sort of creeping paralysis. The funeral was held at the house at 2 o’clock Monday under W.R.C. auspices. The services at the cemetery were in charge of the G.A.R. of which deceased was an honored member for many years. Mr. Wishart was born in Bedford county, Pa. June 30th, 1834, and moved to Ohio when but a lad. He was married to Mariah M. Abel in that state in 1856, and when President Lincoln’s call for volunteers came Mr. Wishart responded and served three years in the 96th Ohio Infantry. In 1878 he came direct to Blair with his family and has lived here ever since. Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. A. J. Taylor of this city and Mrs. Anna M. Beard of Omaha, one son and two daughters having preceded him to the great beyond. Mr. Wishart was a good citizen, honest and upright in all his dealings with his fellowmen, and no such life is ever lived in vain.

The death of John P. Wischart occurred last Sunday evening at his late home on East Colfax Street, and the funeral services were held Monday afternoon and were in charge of the G. A. R. and W. R. C.

Deceased was born in Bedford County, Pa., June 30, 1834, and at an early age went to Huntsville, Ohio, with his parents. He was married in Logan County, Ohio, March 5, 1856, to Maria M. Abel and was the father of five children, one son and four daughters. Two daughters, Mrs. A.J. Taylor, of this city, and Mrs. Anna M. Beard, of Omaha and the wife are the surviving members of the family.

Mr. Wischart enlisted in the 96th. O. V. I. August 5, 1862, and served until July 27, 1865. He came to Nebraska with his family in 1872 and settled in this city. Deceased was a member of John A. Dix Post, G. A. R.
