Aletha L. Newell Greenfield, 82 of Fremont, formerly of Arlington, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Interment will be in the Arlington City Cemetery in Arlington. Visitation will be Monday, September 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Aletha L. Fraley was born June 26, 1931, in Beatrice, to Lloyd H. and Bessie (Fletcher) Fraley.

She grew up at Chester and was a 1949 graduate of Chester High School.

She married John D. Newell on Sept. 10, 1949, in Beatrice.

The couple moved to Wahoo, and then lived in Concordia and Wichita, Kan. They moved to Arlington in 1959. Mr. Newell died March 16, 1991.

She married Glenn Greenfield on July 2, 1992, in Arlington. He died in November of 2002.

She worked as a cook at Freddie’s Café in Arlington and as a cook for the Arlington Public Schools. She also did housekeeping and retired from working at the Veterans Home in Omaha.

She was active in the Arlington Senior Center and was queen of the Red Hat Society at Arlington.

She is survived by daughters, Lauri Newell of Wahoo and Sandra (Bill) Witt of Stephens City, Va.; step-children, Jerry (Odette) Greenfield of Fremont, Nancy (Mike) Holms of San Diego, Calif., and Glenda (Jim) Lundstrom of Columbus; sisters, Claribel (Willis) Mumm of Geneva; Barbara (Junior) Ghan of Winfield, Kan., and Elaine (Ty) Charbonneau of Clyde, Kans.; sister-in-law, Lois Fraley of Superior; 6 grandchildren, Stacey (Felipe) Newell Hernandez, Christine Newell, Billy Witt, Tommy Witt, Teresa Gregorio and Adam Myres; seven great-grandchildren, Joseph, Alexis, Alenia, Audreyanna, Bryce, Wesley, and Valerie; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands; step-son, Jay Greenfield; brother, Duane Fraley; an infant brother; and grandchild, Valerie Lozano.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial yet to be determined.
