FLORENCE RECKMEYER

Services for former Arlington resident, Florence L. Reckmeyer, 74, who died August 27, 1985, in Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha, were Friday, August 30, at the Arlington Community Church. The Rev. Robert Saunders of Arlington and the Rev. C.J. Willis of Omaha officiated and burial was in the Arlington Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Arlington Community Church Youth Programs. A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, at the Immanuel Village Community Room in Omaha.

Mrs. Reckmeyer was born April 25, 1911, in Omaha, the daughter of Byron G. and Harriet Smiley. She married William Therlo Reckmeyer on September 19, 1935, in Omaha.

She was a former member of the Arlington Community Church, the Midwest Weavers Guild, a former member of the Sarepta Chapter No. 48, Order of Eastern Star at Arlington and a member of the Fremont Chapter of P.E.O.

Mrs. Reckmeyer was a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and she taught school for 18 years, 14 of which were at Ralston High School.

While at Ralston she helped establish the elementary-secondary art program. In 1982 she received the Certificate of Art Achievement Award from Ralston High School.

She was also a member of the Nebraska Art Teachers Association and received its Distinguished Service Award in 1972.

After the death of her husband in July, 1973, she continued to operate the family funeral home and hardware store. They were the third generation of the Reckmeyer family to operate the business, which was started in 1887.

Mrs. Reckmeyer also operated the studio art shop in Arlington and retired January 1, 1982.

She helped organize Cub Scouting in Arlington and served as den mother for five years.

Mrs. Reckmeyer is survived by two sons, Willaim of Skaneateles, New York, and Richard of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Nancy) Carsten of Tulley, New York; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Pallbearers were William Herbert Reckmeyer, R. Timothy Reckmeyer, Christopher Carsten, Charles Carsten, Calvin F. Carsten, Vernon K. Johnson and Claire Fredstrom. Honorary pallbearer was Floyd Loftis.

Organist was Shirley Schmidt and soloist was Mary Ann Fredstrom.
