William A. Reckmeyer was born November 4, 1876 at Fremont, Nebraska, the son of William and Katherine Reckmeyer. He moved with his parents to Arlington at the age of 2 years and had resided there the rest of his life.

He attended Arlington High School and studied at Warrenton, Missouri. Afterward he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln and graduated in 1902.

He married Mary Belle Couffer at Arlington on July 28, 1903. They made their home in Arlington where they lived all their married life. One son, W. Therlo, was born to this union.

Mr. Reckmeyer was a licensed embalmer and funeral director, receiving his licenses in 1900. He was active in the Methodist Church. He was Sunday School superintendent for some time, was on the Official Board of the Methodist Church for some 60 years, and sang for years in the choir. He was on the town board for a number of years and was the town mayor at one time. He also served on the school board for many years. He served on the board of the Crowell Memorial Home for a period of eight years. He was a member of Hiram Lodge No. 52, A.F. & A.M., and Sarepta Chapter No. 48, Order of Eastern Star at Arlington; and also belonged to the Scottish Rite Lodge of Omaha.

Mr. and Mrs. William Reckmeyer celebrated their golden wedding on July 28, 1953. Mrs. Reckmeyer passed away on December 18, 1959.

Mr. Reckmeyer is survived by one son, W. Therlo, of Arlington; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. A.T. Hutchinson of Norfolk, Nebraska. He passed away September 22, 1966 at the Crowell Memorial Home in Blair at the age of 89 years.

Business houses in Arlington were closed from 2 to 3 during the funeral.

Casketbearers were John Royuk, Leonard Thompson, Vernon Thompson, Dr. Jack Cady, Howard Edmondson and Farnam Franzenburg.
