BERVIN E. RECTOR, SR., 79

Bervin E. Rector Sr., 79, of Fremont, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 27, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont, with the Rev. John Plowman officiating. Interment was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Military graveside services were conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post No. 854 and American Legion Post No. 20.

Bervin E. Rector was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Whitman to David and Elva (Wheaton) Rector. He grew up in the sandhills of Nebraska.

During World War II, he was a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Force. He served from Feb. 10, 1943, to Oct. 28, 1945, in the European, African and Middle Eastern theatres. He later served in Nebraska’s Army National Guard.

He moved to Broken Bow, where he lived until moving to Fremont in 1950. He was employed at Hormel’s for 34 years, retiring in 1984.

On Nov. 19, 1954, he married Helene Schluter Swanson in Fremont.

Mr. Rector was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont, and was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 854 of Fremont.

He is survived by his wife, Helene; three sons and a daughter-in-law, David Rector of Tilden, Bervin Rector Jr. of Fremont, and Berwyn and Debbie Rector of Arlington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Robert Wall of Dickson, Tenn., Betty and Ted Maple of Ames, and Janice and Wayne Cox of Reed Springs, Mo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Ura Rector of San Diego, Calif., and Arnold and Doris Rector of Fremont; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Velma Long of Scribner and Neva and Don Peters of Fremont; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Carpenter; and four brothers, Lewis, Delbert, LaVern and Earnest Rector.

Memorials are suggested to St. Timothy Lutheran Church of Fremont.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
