Christoffer Paulsen Passes Away At His Home In Blair

Christoffer Paulsen, who died at his home here in Blair last Sunday evening, was born in Ostersnede, Sogon, Denmark, July 8, 1845, where he also was united with the Lutheran church.

In May 1868, he married Miss Frederike Sophia Antonsen. To that union were born four sons and four daughters, all born in Denmark.

In the fall of 1884, the family emigrated to the United States. Mr. Paulsen had a brother at Wall Lake, Iowa, and there the family remained about six months, but in the early spring of 1885 they moved to Blair, living here until 1888, when he rented a farm and went to farming. Mr. Paulsen worked as a section hand on the railroad. Next year he bought a forty-acre farm and later he sold that and bought a larger one. Hard work, saving and good luck contributed to make him prosperous.

Shortly after the family had come to Blair they joined the Lutheran church here, of which church the deceased was a steady member.

In 1907 Mrs. Paulsen died. In the winter of 1908 Mr. Paulsen made a visit to the mother country, and in January, 1909, he married Miss Laurine Marie Jensen.

The departed friend leaves behind to mourn him, beside his widow, all his children: Mrs. H. P. Nielsen, Heron Lake, Minn.; Anton, Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Christian, Blair; Mrs. K.P. Hundahl, Blair; Mrs. M. P. Hansen Blair; Martin and Paul, both of Blair; and Mrs. John Hatting, of Minneapolis, Minn.; 44 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, and two brother in America, Peder at Ames, Iowa and George at Thermopolis, Wyo., and one sister in Denmark. All of the children were present at the funeral.

About four years ago Mr. Paulsen’s health began failing, and it was soon decided that he suffered from diabetes. He recovered somewhat from the first attack but never got well. Until about a month before he died, he was able to be up and around, but after that time, and especially the last week he sank very fast until he expired last Sunday night. During his illness he was very tenderly cared for by his devoted wife, relatives and friends.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, Rev. A. M. Anderson and Rev. J. M. Nelson officiating.
