Lois E. Paulsen, 89

Former Washington County resident Lois E. Paulsen, 89, of Louisville, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Louisville.

A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 22 at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun.

Los Echo (Stevens) Paulsen was born July 7, 1916, in St Edward. She graduated in 1936 from St Edward High School.

On June 7, 1916, she married Ray Paulsen at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Albion.

The couple farmed at Blair, Neuman Grove, and Belgrade. They later moved to Albion, where they operated a café. In 1956, they moved to Omaha, where Mrs. Paulsen was employed in the obstetrics department of the old Lutheran and Doctors hospitals.

Another move took them to Auburn, where he husband was administrator of the hospital. In 1969, they moved to Prescott, Ariz., where Mrs. Paulsen continued her work in obstetrics department at the hospital in Prescott.

Her family notes that she loved her work in the nurseries of the hospitals as a delivery room nurse. On a number of occasions, she was called upon to deliver the babies when the doctor did not arrive on time, and was very proud of her accomplishments in this regard.

In 1986, they moved to North Platte after her husband’s health declined. After his death, Mrs. Paulsen moved to Fort Calhoun, where she lived until ill health didn’t permit her to live alone.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Marilyn Paulsen of Papillion, Donald Paulsen of Red Oak, Iowa; three grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Otte of McGregor, Minn.
