MARK J. REEVES, 54

Mark J. Reeves, 54, of Loup City, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Health System Hospital in Kearney after a four-month battle with brain cancer.

His body was donated to the Anatomical Board at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia.

Mark J. Reeves was born May 14, 1955, at Arnold to E.H. “Doc” and Jean (Finkrel) Reeves. At the age of 2, he moved with his family to Scotia where he received his education and graduated from North Loup-Scotia High School in 1973.

On Sept. 14, 1975, he married Kris Beck at Scotia. The couple made their first home in Scotia and then moved to Kearney where they lived for a short time before returning to Scotia.

While living in Scotia, Mr. Reeves owned and operated Reeves Construction until 1989. At that time, he became a Conservation Officer for the State of Nebraska. The Reeves have resided in Loup City for the past 20 years.

He became a member of the Scotia Zion Lutheran Church on Jan. 2, 2010. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodwork. He especially enjoyed playing Santa and being “Grand-dad” to his two grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Kris, of Loup City; three sons, Ryan and Layne, both of Omaha; and Ryley of Shelton; two grandsons, Kaden and Ethan Reeves of Shelton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jon and Jane Reeves of Kennard, and Steve and Shirley Reeves of Kearney; and one sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Dan Doty of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the Loup City Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit, the North Loup-Scotia Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit or the family’s choice.

Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
