Services for Alvin Emil Rembold, 80 of Spencer, Iowa and formerly of Blair, who died March 26, 1993 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital were Monday, March 29 at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Tom Dettmer officiated. Burial was in the Scotland Cemetery at Scotland, South Dakota.

Alvin Emil Rembold, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Schmidt Rembold was born July 18, 1912 in Scotland, South Dakota. His childhood years were spent in Scotland, where he received his education, graduating from Scotland High School.

He later attended and graduated from South Dakota State University and attended graduate school at the University of Omaha.

He began his teaching career in 1934 at Garden City, South Dakota. After one year there, he spent six years at Kimball, South Dakota and then 7 ½ years at Tripp, South Dakota before coming to Blair in February, 1948.

While band instructor at Blair, the Blair Band was guest band at the Augustana Musical Festival in Sioux Falls; played a concert for the American School Band Directors Association; attended the Rapid City Music Festival; and performed at the Manisphere Festival in Winnipeg. The band also received an invitation to the Vienna Music Festival in Austria in 1973 and 1974.

He was a member of the MENC, ASBSA, Le Blanc National Advisory Board, various education associations, and was past secretary-treasurer of NMEA. He was charter member of the First Chair of America and of the Nebraska School Band Association.

For three years he was guest director at the University of Kansas Music Camp at the Wayne State Music Camp. He served as clinician and judge at many music contests throughout Iowa and some in Nebraska. In 1982, he was named a member of the Hall of Fame Music Educators of Nebraska.

Also while in Blair, he received the Jaycee award of outstanding service in 1967 and a life membership in the Parent-Teacher Association. He served on the church council at First Lutheran Church and was an usher for many years.

He retired in 1975 after 27 years as band director in Blair. For three years he then worked for a music company in Omaha.

While in Spencer, he was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Golden K Kiwanis, Lion’s Club, PTA and MENC.

He married Fern Hanse July 5, 1940 in Fremont. They moved to Spencer in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard and one brother, Eugene.

He is survived by his wife, Fern of Spencer; one son and his wife, John “Jack” and Jean Rembold of Estherville, Iowa; four grandchildren, Alison, Matthew, Jessica and Mitchell; one sister, Freda Lorenzen of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; one brother and his wife, Harold and Luverne Rembold of Blair; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
