Blair Woman Is Buried Sunday

Mrs. Catherine Mathern, Died At Home of Daughter Here Friday.

Mrs. Catherine Buttenschon Mathern, 81, died Friday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Miller, on east Lincoln street. Her sudden death came as a shock to her family and friends.

Catherine Margaret Elizabeth Knaak was born in Schleswig-Holstein, German, February 11, 1854, and came to the United States in June, 1880. The same month she was married to Henry Christian Buttenschon.

Was Married Twice

To them were born four children, Bruno of Seattle, Mrs. J. J. Pauley of Hunston, Iowa, Rudolph of North Bend and Walter of Fort Calhoun. Her husband died later, and she returned to German for a time. Returning to this country she was married on October 9, 1887, to Emil Mathern. Three children were born to them, Emil, William and Louise, now Mrs. Miller. Emil and William preceded their mother in death.

Deceased had been a member of the German Lutheran church. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Campbell Funeral Home, with Rev. Thomas J. Reese officiating. Interment was in the local cemetery.

Catherine Margaret Elizabeth Knaak was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany February 11, 1854, and came to this country June 13, 1880. On June 22 she was united in marriage to Henry Christian Buttenschon. To this union four children were born, Bruno of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. J. S. Pauley, Hunston Iowa; Rudolph of North Bend and Walter of Fort Calhoun. After her husband’s death she returned to Germany. After a short visit in her native land she came back to this country and on October 9, 1887 she was united in marriage to Emil Mathern; three children were born to them: Louise, Emil and William. Two of these preceded their mother in death. Emil in infancy and William at the age of 20 years.

Mrs. Mathern has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Jack Miller, for the past six months. Her death was very sudden and a surprise to her many friends and neighbors.
