Harold E. Matney, 74

Harold E. Matney, 74, of Blair died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at First Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Harold E. Matney was born April 9, 1924, in Lincoln to Fred and Opal (Wilson) Matney.

After he graduated from South Sioux City High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After his discharge, he was a salesman for Old Home Bread. He owned and operated Harold’s Super Saver Grocery Store in Walthill, where he worked for 12 years.

Prior to moving to Blair in 1980, he was with the Norwest bank in Norfolk.

He served as the chief executive officer for the Blair Bank from 1980 to 1984 when he retired.

After retirement, he sold insurance part time, managed the Blair Golf Club for two years and worked at Blair Mini Mart.

On Sept. 20, 1985, he married Rhonda Rasmussen in Blair.

Mr. Matney was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Tangier Shrine, Blair Rotary Club, Kiwanis and Optimist Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; two daughters, Jill and Jayme Matney of Blair; one son, Donald Matney and his wife, Judy, of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Joe Van Ackeren of Norfolk; daughter-in-law, Pam Matney of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Bess (Mrs. Al) Greenleaf of Mesa, Ariz., Betty Craig of Lakeville, Minn., Edna (Mrs. Bob) Pojar of South Sioux City, and Burdell (Mrs. Dale) Tatman of Mesa, Ariz.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred Jr. and Laverne Matney of Scott City, Kan., and Duane and Mary Matney of Belmont, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Larry Matney.

Memorials are suggested to Shepherds Watch or First Lutheran Church.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
