Betty Schmit, 77, of Blair died Saturday, June 14, 1997 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery in Omaha.

Schmit was born June 6, 1920 in Omaha to Nicholas and Eva (Hurth) Scholtes. She graduated from St. Johns High School in 1938. On June 23, 1945, she married Al Schmit of Nenzel, Neb.in Omaha. They farmed west of Fort Calhoun until moving to Blair in 1992. She was a supervisor in the mail department at Boys Town.

She was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and the Over 55 Club.

Survivors are her husband, Al; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Ron Bergmann, Gretna, Neb.; Judy and Ervin Poore, Woodbine, Iowa; Jeanne and Gary Hall, Blair; Joanne and Daniel Murphy, Fort Calhoun and Joyce and Mike Smith of Fort Calhoun; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Becky Schmit, Kennard and John and Judy Schmit, Fort Calhoun; 26 grandchildren and two brothers, Wilfred Scholtes, Overland Park, Kans.; and Francis Scholtes, Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Joseph, Jerald and Jerome and a brother, Paul Arthur.

Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church or Boys Town.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
