Lucille Brand, 96

Lucille Brand, 96, of Blair, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Immanuel Fontenelle Nursing Home in Omaha.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair.

Lucille Schrage was born July 9, 1914, in Saint Libory, Ill., to John L. and Mary Ann (Borgmeyer) Schrage.

She married Marcellus Brand on Nov. 24, 1938.

Mrs. Brand worked at the Blair Bakery for several years.

She was a great mother who dearly loved her two children. She always worked hard to give them more than the necessities of life, and, more importantly, she taught them to be hard-working, honest and responsible adults.

Mrs. Brand was a busy lady, working in her garden, raising beautiful dahlias, iris and flowers, of all kinds. She enjoyed playing cards with her ladies card group, and serving them home-baked goodies and desserts. In addition to being a great cook, she also was a seamstress and enjoyed making crafts of all kinds. Until age and circumstances finally forced her to slow down, she remained her usual energetic and caring self.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Linda Brand of Benbrook, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Bill Thomas of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcellus, in August of 2007; and three brothers.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
