Nellie Pearce, 87

Nellie Mae Pearce, 87, of Omaha, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at the Florence Home in Omaha.

Services were Monday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Burial was in the Herman Cemetery.

Nellie Pearce was born Nov, 24, 1909, at Herman to Charles and Malinda (Johnson) Sheets. She graduated from Herman High School and attended Wayne State Teachers College. She received her masters degree in education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She taught in rural school at Valentine Neb.; and was a teacher and principal for the Omaha Public Schools, serving as principal at Field Club and Central Grade School. On July 7, 1936, she married Virgil William Pearce.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Pilot Club; and the Nebraska American Association of Retired Persons. She served as editor of the Nebraska AARP newsletter.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Nola and Robert Baker, Omaha; a grandson, Gregory R. Kuchera, Omaha; a sister, Mildred O’Hara, North Bend, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in December, 1987 and her parents.
