GUNNAR PEARSON DIED AT HOSPITAL THURS., MAY 27

Gunnar B. Pearson, a resident of Washington County since 1928 and more recently the operator of a blacksmith and machine shop at Herman, died at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair last Thursday, May 27th. He was 65 years old.

Mr. Pearson was born in Hasta Veda Sweden, October 20, 1905. He migrated to Canada in 1927 and to the United States in 1928. He became a naturalized citizen in 1936 at Gering, Nebraska.

The deceased came to Blair during World War II to work for the Petersen and Haecker Boat Works which was building a number of refrigerated ocean-going barges for the War Department.

Following the war and the end of the contracts, he purchased the blacksmith shop at Herman and operated it for a number of years. He retired a short time ago due to ill health.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva in 1952.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Laverna) Winslow of Blair, a step-daughter, Mrs. W.F. (Maxine) Arndoff, of Grand Island, 3 grandchildren, one step grand-child and a brother and four sisters in Sweden.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Lutheran Church in Blair with the Rev. Robert Albers conducting the service. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were George Lantry, Menno Larsen, Earl Byland, Hap Stricklett, Elmer Vinderslev and Jack Colwell.
