Liberty M. Clements, 92

Herman native Liberty M. Clements, 92, of Tekamah, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010.

Services were Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Herman Community Church. Interment was in the Herman Cemetery.

Liberty Marie Eriksen was born May 24, 1918, in Herman, to John B. and Emma (Weber) Eriksen.

She attended New England grade school and graduated from Herman High School in 1935. She attended Wayne Normal College and taught at the Thone School in Washington County and Fairview School in Burt County.

On Christmas Eve, 1936, she married Ervin Clements.

Mrs. Clements was a homemaker and, in addition to her family, her next love was baseball. She often kept the box scores while listening to the ball game on the radio. Mr. and Mrs. Clements spent their Saturday nights at dances or playing cards with friends. After her husband retired, they spent many hours riding in a wagon pulled by their mules, Fluff and Bess.

Mrs. Clements was a member of the Herman Methodist Church, the Echo Extension Club, and the Tri-County Saddle Club.

She is remembered as a gentle soul who never complained and saw the best in all situations.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James J. "Jim" and Frances of Decatur, Robert E. "Bob" of Tekamah, and Bernard L. "Bernie" and Joan of Herman; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Svoboda of Copperas Cove, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Evelyn Eriksen; brother-in-law, Adolph Svoboda and daughter-in-law, Genelle Clements.

Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.
