Gregory “Jiggs” Mathiasen, 22

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 29 at Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa for Gregory Ronald Mathiasen, 22 who died following a recreational vehicle accident in Monona County, Iowa May 27, 1990 at Marion Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was life flighted from the accident by helicopter to the center where he underwent emergency surgery before dying.

Rev. D. Stephen Clinton of First United Methodist Church in Harlan officiated. Burial was in Harlan Cemetery.

Gregory Ronald Mathiasen was born February 22, 1968 at Harlan, Iowa to Ronald and Linda Chambers Mathiasen. Nicknamed “Jiggs”, he attended school in Harlan and Woodbine, Iowa and graduated from Woodbine High school with the class of 1986. He attended Western Iowa Tech in Ida Grove, Iowa where he completed his course of study in 1987.

He was residing in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the time of his death. He was employed by Deitloff Construction as a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edward and Hannah Mathiasen and his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Carstensen Chambers.

He is survived by his mother, Linda Mathiasen of Harlan; his father, Ronald Mathiasen of Blair; a brother, Curt of London, England; a sister, Suzanne Mathisen of Harlan; his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Kathryn Chambers of Harlan; and other relatives and friends.

Casket bearers were Darin Smith, Kevin Bruck, Brian Jensen, Rich Meeker, Dennis Snyder, Steven Ehlerts, Scott A. Harris and Jeffrey Outhouse.

Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of arrangements.
