Leonard Mathiesen

Services for Leonard Edwin Mathiesen, 72, who died Saturday, March 22, 1986, were held Monday, March 24, 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Howard Bailey and Rev. John Ewton officiated. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Mathiesen was born on October 19, 1913 to Fritz and Martha (Hoier) Mathiesen on the farm northwest of Blair, Nebraska. He married Luella Anderson in December of 1936 and she passed away in March of 1937.

Mathiesen spent most of his life farming, but was called to serve his country during World War 2. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant on March 10, 1945, after serving three years four months and seven days in the U.S. Army. He served as a crane operator in the Aleutian Islands from June 1942 to August 1943.

He married Marian Rosenbaum Dennis in August 1950 and they lived at 1524 Oak Drive since their retirement on March 8, 1975.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blair, the V.F.W. a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a Life Member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Marian, step-daughter, Imogene Lutz, her husband John and their nine children and ten grandchildren, step-son Larry Dennis, his wife Verna and their two daughters. Three sisters Ida Petersen of Omaha, Elna McQuinn of Omaha and Magdalene Meador of Blair.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Ernie Bohs, Ted Jarosz, Stu Maurer, Don Petersen, Walter Plugge, Clarence Schreiner. Active Pallbearers: Tom Andersen, Dan Frahm Fred Gray, Rick Jordan, Jim Sumey, Shawn Thallas.
