Arnold Matzen, 68

Services for Arnold Matzen, 68 of Kennard who died May 23, 1995 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 26 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Military graveside services will be in the Blair Cemetery.

A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Arnold M. Matzen was born November 22, 1926 at Kennard to August and Anna Hansen Matzen. He graduated from Kennard High School in 1944.

On March 24, 1944 he enlisted in the United States Marines and served during World War II. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Iwo Jima in 1945. He was discharged in 1946.

After his retirement from the postal department in 1971, he went to work for S. E. Smith Lumber Company where he worked at the time of his death.

He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, Kennard American Legion, Blair Veterans of Foreign Wars and Blair Masonic Lodge.

He married Pauline McBride at Ames, Iowa on December 7, 1947.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Marlin Matzen.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; a son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Donna Matzen, Lemars, Iowa; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and George Heeren, Tempe, Arizona; four grandchildren, Erik Matzen, Erin Matzen, Josh Heeren and Megan Heeren and one sister, Lleanna (Mrs. Sam Wright) Kennard.

Memorials are suggested to the Kennard American Legion, Kennard Rescue Squad or Emmaus Lutheran Church.
