Mrs. August Matzen Buried Monday

Services for Mrs. August Matzen, 71, were held Monday, bringing to a close the long and useful life of another sincere, respected Washington County woman.

Born September 30, 1875, near Telbasta in the western part of this county, she was left motherless at the early age of three. Her entire life was spent in this county. She was baptized in the Brown Creek church and made her home at Telbasta.

On November 6, 1895, she was untied in marriage with August Matzen of Kennard, and her home was thereafter made in that vicinity.

Eight children blessed the marriage. Mrs. Matzen is survived by her husband, two daughters and five sons. One son preceded her in death. The daughters are Mrs. Jennie Andersen and Mrs. Carrie Christensen, of Blair. The sons are Andrew, of Glenwood, Iowa; Chris of Buffalo, Wyoming; August, Jr., of Blair; William of Benson, and Lawrence, at home. Four sisters also survive: Mrs. Anna Crawford, of Enlinton, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Carrie Snowden, Mrs. Jennie Wulf and Mrs. Sophie Wiese, of Blair. There are 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Burial services were conducted at the Bendorf Funeral Home with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen officiating. Burial was made in the German cemetery, south of Blair.
