Services Held Today For George Matzen

Funeral services are today, Thursday, October 1, 10:30 a.m. at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard for George Emil Matzen, 65, who died September 28, 1981.

Rev. Russell Saltzman is conducting the services. Burial is in Kennard Cemetery.

George Emil Matzen was born September 5, 1916, in Blair to Emil and Olevea Christ Matzen. He married Marjorie Gehrk in Kennard on May 5, 1946.

He was a veteran of World War II and served from April 28, 1942, to September 16, 1945. He was a member of the American Legion, Kennard Fire Department and Emmaus Lutheran Church Council and worked as a carpenter during his life.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, Kennard; three sons, George H. Matzen, Milford; James E. Matzen, Blair; and Gerald H. (Jake) Matzen, Blair; and one daughter, Mrs. William (Maren) Jorgensen, Blair. Seven grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Emma Hansen, Bertha Wulf, Kathryn Koenig, all of Blair; Alice Christensen, Omaha; and Clara May Wehrbein, Douglas, Wyoming; and four brothers, Herman Matzen, Otto Matzen, and Clarence Matzen, all of Blair; and Anton Matzen of Bennington also survive him.

Pallbearers are Roscoe Anderson, Frank Rybin, Harlan Christensen, Leland Vogt, Paul Petersen, and Tom Wilkins.

Clare Cowing is organist.

Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the services.
