Herman Richard Matzen, 61, of Irrigon, Ore., died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in Laramie, Wyo.

Services were Friday, Dec. 24, at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston, Ore., with private interment.

Herman Richard Matzen was born July 12, 1938, to Herman and Meta (Thompson) Matzen of Blair.

He was a heavy equipment operator of a paver sand loader.

On Dec. 21, 1993, he married Norma (Abby) Gienger at Hepner, Ore.

His hobbies were fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Abby of Irrigon, Ore.; his mother, Meta Matzen; three sons, Ricky, Kevin and Richard; three daughters, Gail, Brenda and Melissa; three brothers, Duane, Keith and LaVern; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Larry.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston, Ore., was in charge of arrangements.
