Olevea Matzen, Of Kennard Area, Died Here Tuesday

Mrs. Olevea Matzen, 80 year old woman of the Kennard area, died Tuesday at Memorial Community Hospital. She was the wife of the late Emil Matzen who preceded her in death a number of years ago.

Mrs. Matzen was born March 30th, 1885 at Belleville, Illinois and came to this area many years ago. She and her husband farmed during their more active years.

Mrs. Matzen was the mother of a large family of six sons and six daughters, all of whom survive her. The sons are Otto, Rudolph and Clarence, all of Blair; Herman, of Herman, Nebraska; George of Kennard and Anthony (Tony) of Bennington.

The daughters are Mrs. Jens Hansen (Emma) of Blair; Mrs. Raymond Wulf (Bertha) of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Mike Christensen (Alice) of Omaha; Mrs. Walter Koenig (Catherine) of Blair; Mrs. Harvey Gehrk (Clara Mae) of Omaha and Mrs. David Rasmussen (Lucille) of Arlington.

In addition to the sons and daughters there are 33 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Three sisters also survive Mrs. Matzen. They are Mrs. Otto Mencke, of Blair; Mrs. May McCracken, of Omaha and Mrs. Louise Gustin, of Blair.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. at Emmaus Lutheran Church at Kennard; the Rev. Harold Laursen will conduct the service. Burial under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home will be made in the Kennard cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Soren Wolsmann, William Wulbern, George Japp, Niels Christensen, Harry Svogerson and William Vogt.
