Services Held For Rudolph Matzen, 69

Funeral services for 69 year old Rudolph Andrew Matzen were held Saturday, April 4, 1981. Mr. Matzen died on April 1 at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital.

The services were at the First Lutheran Church in Blair with Rev. Kurt Sortland officiating and Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Mr. Matzen was born at Kennard, Nebraska on February 1, 1912. He was married to Gladys Johnsen in Omaha in 1936. The couple farmed until they retired to their home at 2309 college Drive in Blair.

Mr. Matzen is survived by his wife Gladys of Blair, four children, 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one grandchild preceded him in death. The children are Mrs. William (Eileen) Smith, Ashland; Mrs. Kenneth (Janice) Lambrecht of Omaha; Mrs. Allan (Marian) Ward of Blair and Mrs. M. Clark (Linda) Johnson of Blair.

Surviving brothers and sisters include Mrs. Emma Hansen, Blair; Bertha Wulf, Missouri; Alice Christensen, Omaha; Kathryn Koenig, Blair; Clara May Wehrbein, Wyoming; Herman Matzen, Blair; Otto, Blair; George, Kennard; Clarence, Blair and Anton of Bennington.

Rudolph Matzen was born and raised in the Kennard area. He attended the Brewster School and graduated from Kennard High School. He and his wife farmed in the Barry Hill area until his retirement in 1975 when they moved to Blair. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, member of Farm Bureau and past President of the McCarthy School. Five brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Active pallbearers were Arnold Burmeister, Gerold Kobs, Ralph Novak, Ed Short, Louie Sully and John Wolsmann. Honorary Pallbearers were Elmer Andersen, Ted Carroll, James Christensen, Emil Kuhl, Lloyd Nielsen, Earl Thompson, Howard Thompson, Harland Warrick, Soren Wolsmann and Virgil Wrich.
