Fiancé of Blair Girl Killed In Collision

(picture of wrecked car)

Three persons died in a two car accident which occurred 3 ½ miles west of Missouri Valley on U. S. Highway 30 about 9:30 P.M. Saturday, August 21.

Dead were Donald Paul McHugh, 26, of Woodbine, fiancé of Miss Anita Viles of Blair, and Glen Howard Lewis, 57, and his wife, Viola Helen Lewis, also 57, both of Neola.

McHugh was driving a 1961 Plymouth owned by Nial Viles of Blair, Nebr., and was traveling west on Highway 30. The Lewises were driving eastbound on the highway in their 1969 Chevrolet.

Highway Patrolman Conrad Knickman said McHugh apparently pulled out to pass another car and pulled into the path of the Lewis auto. The collision was almost head-on, he said. Both vehicles were total loses.

Mr. McHugh’s body was taken to the Heft Funeral Home in Woodbine. Rites were held Tuesday morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment was in the Woodbine Cemetery.

Funeral services were held for Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Wednesday in Avoca with burial there.
