Last Remaining Member of Pioneer Family Died Friday

Mrs. Louisa Compton Peck was born July 11, 1881, north of Blair, Nebraska, of pioneer parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Compton. She the last survivor of a family of eight brothers and sisters. This year she observed her 93rd birthday. She attended early day school at Cuming City and Pleasant View Schools.

On April 3, 1901, she was united in marriage to Benjamin F. Peck, also of a pioneer family, and in 1966 they observed their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house celebration. They resided in Blair and on farms in Washington and Burt Counties, retiring in September 1939 and returning to Blair to live.

Mrs. Peck was a member of the Church of God of Abrahamic Faith for over sixty years. When the church was disbanded in 1942 and the building was sold, she continued to support and follow the church’s activities through their magazines and tracts.

At Mr. Peck’s passing in 1969 she became resident of Crowell Home where she died on August 2, 1974. She was preceded in death by two daughters, an infant and by Mrs. Dorothy Wilder in 1967.

Mrs. Peck is survived by three sons, Harold of Nickerson, Nebraska; Sheldon of Windor, Missouri; and Cecil of Herman, Nebraska; and one daughter, Mrs. Vernon Robeson (Mildred) of Huntsville, Alabama. Survivors also include twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, August 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair with Dr. Gordon Patterson officiating. Interment was at the Blair Cemetery with the Bendorf Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Earl Peck, Ionia, Missouri; Dean Peck, Hooper, Nebraska; Keith Peck, Nickerson, Nebraska; Steven Peck, Herman, Nebraska; Dan Nash, Rogersville, Alabama; and Ken Wilder, Camden, Alabama.
