#1 William F. Peck, 77

Services for Bill Peck, age 77 of rural Herman who died February 26, 1992, were Saturday, February 29, 1992 at the Herman Legion Hall with Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Military graveside services were conducted by the Jackson-Peck American Legion of Herman. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

William F. Peck was born on June 14, 1914 near Blair on a farm south of the Pleasant View School, where he also attended school. In 1936 he moved from the farm to Blair where he worked for the Gamble Store.

On November 6, 1939, he married Louise Jacob, in Omaha, Nebraska. They moved to Broken Bow where he was an appliance saleman for a Gamble Store.

He later purchased the Gamble Store in Hamburg, Iowa. They lived in Hamburg until he entered the service during World War II, serving in the 11th airborne division of the Army.

After the war they engaged in farming west of Herman. In 1948 he opened the Peck Insurance Agency, which he ran for over 30 years.

He was a member of the Herman Masonic Lodge, Herman Federated Church, Herman Ambassador to Ak-Sar-Ben, Herman American Legion, 40 et 8, past Legion commander and service officer in Herman, served on the Governor’s judicial nominating committee, was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge in Blair, Herman Community Club, secretary of the Herman Industrial Development Co-op and was a seed corn dealer for Pioneer and Garst for over 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James W. in 1958, one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Louise of Herman, and daughter and son-in-law Joan and Henry Hernandez of Herman, one niece and two nephews of California.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
