Fred N. Pedersen, 80

Fred N. Pedersen, 80, of Herman, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Per his request, there will be no memorial service. His body has been donated to science and will be teaching at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for the next two years.

Fred Nels Pedersen was born Sept. 28, 1929, in Herman to Nels and June (Cushman) Pedersen. He graduated from Blair High School in 1946.

On Jan. 29, 1950, he married Dorothy Novak. The couple had four daughters. On July 24, 1979, he married Janice Karlene Reid.

Mr. Pedersen worked for many years for Walnut Grove Feed and Grain at various locations in central and northeastern Nebraska. He was then an independent over-the- road truck driver for more than 15 years.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going on trail rides with his team of mules.

He is survived by his wife, Janice, of Herman; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Leonard Putnam of Hildreth, Bonnie and Dwight Petersen, Barb Cass, and Rita and Howard McManigal, all of Blair; grandchildren, Valerie Day, Bent Toelle, Ryan Putnam, Todd Petersen, Garrett Petersen, Greg Petersen, Nicole Bohlen, Kurt McManigal, and Connie Kephart; great-granddaughters, Cecilia Putnam, Daphne Petersen, Cayley Bohlen, Ellie McManigal, and Bailey McManigal; sisters, Ruby Hovendick and Sharon Hatton; and stepson, Kenyon Barber.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Plummer, and a grandson, Anthony Cass.
