CLARA SMITH RICH, 87

Clara Smith Rich, 87, of Tallahassee, Fla., died Monday, August 30, 1999, in Tallahassee.

Services were 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 3, at the Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Michael Ostrom officiated.

Burial was in Ridge Cemetery.

Clara Smith Rich was born on January 22, 1912 in Greenup, Ill., and was raised in an orphanage in Sioux City, Iowa until the age of 12.

She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa in 1930, and then attended a business school.

In November of 1930, she married Rex A. Smith who passed away in November of 1967.

On June 14, 1977, she married V.H. Rich. They lived in Fremont for part of the year and in Bradenton, Fla., for part of the year.

She worked as a sales representative for the Neo-Life Company for many years and was a member of the Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont.

She is survived by her husband, Van; two daughters, Betty Lou Smith and Marilyn Holmes, both of Tallahassee, Fla.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack Smith of Panama City, Fla., Harold and Jan Smith of Tallahassee, Fla., and Merlin and Margaret Smith of Grand Junction, Colo.; step-daughter and her husband, Shirley and Charles Westergren of Fremont; step-son and his wife, Jack and Barbara Rich of Rocky Mount, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Hospice Program of the Fremont Area Medical Center.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
