The news of the death of Mrs. Frank Jahnel, as it circulated about town, caused a gloom to settle among the old timers who have known Mr. and Mrs. Jahnel for years. Some time ago she was taken sick and was operated on for appendicitis and seemed to be improving until a few days ago when she began to complain. Monday morning her condition did not seem to be such as to cause any great alarm, but in the afternoon she grew worse, and a consultation of physicians was held, but all that medical power could do failed to check her condition, and she passed away Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Jahnel have lived in Washington county for many years. They came here with nothing to speak of more than a willingness to build a home and a desire to become good citizens, and how well they succeeded is left for friends and neighbors to say. Last fall Mr. and Mrs. Jahnel left the farm and moved to Blair where they had intended to settle down and enjoy life in their declining years while their sons took the active charge of the farm. The funeral services will be held at the old home at two o’clock Thursday. At 9:15 o’clock there will be short services at the home here in Blair when the body will be removed to the old home for the burial services. The body will be laid to rest in the German cemetery.

MRS. FRANK JAHNEL PASSES AWAY

Though it had been known for some time that Mrs. Frank Jahnel had been in poor health for several weeks and had suffered the pains of a surgical operation, the news of her death fell on unwilling ears and caused a responsive throb in the sympathizing hearts of the old time neighbors in this community and hung a pall of sadness over the entire neighborhood which has been proud to claim Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jahnel and their estimable family as among their most respected citizens for many years.

Bertha Minster was born in Germany July 4, 1857, and emigrated to this country with her husband to make a home in this country for themselves, and the success which has crowned their efforts is best attested by the beautiful farms and city residence which they have gained by these years of honest labor, and only last spring had they left the farm and moved to Blair to enjoy their declining years in well earned comfort.

Mrs. Jahnel was the mother of four sons and four daughters, all but the youngest son have arrived to the estate of sturdy manhood and beautiful and accomplished womanhood.

Mrs. Jahnel died Tuesday forenoon, and the body was interred at the cemetery near the German hall in the south part of the county. Short, but impressive services, were held at the Blair residence at 9:15 Thursday morning which was largely attended by Blair friends. At 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon the funeral was held at the homestead four miles southeast of Kennard. This was one of the largest funerals ever held in this part of the county, friends and neighbors coming for miles to pay their last respects to one to whom nothing but love and respect is due.
