ROBERT L. RICKER, 63

Robert L. Ricker, 63, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2009, at his home in Herman.

Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 9, at the Herman Legion Hall. Interment was in the Herman Cemetery.

Robert L. Ricker was born April 9, 1945, on the family farm in Gretna to Floyd and Matilda (Schram) Ricker. He attended grade school in Gretna until 1957, when the family moved to Herman. He graduated in 1963 from Herman High School, where he was one of the star basketball players. His team went to the state tournament several times.

Mr. Ricker retired after 30 years of truck driving for Jones Truck Lines. During those years, he also worked on the family farm. After retiring, he kept busy with roofing and snow removal.

He loved the outdoors. Regardless of weather, he remained an avid hunter and fisherman, and planted a big garden every year. Having a friendly smile, the gift of gab and an ear for a good joke, he never met a stranger.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Payton and Jason Conner of Saipan, Japan; son, Preston Ricker of Blair; three grandchildren, Kiley, Tylan and Haley Conner; brothers and sister-in-law, Michael Ricker of Council Bluffs, Iowa, George and JoAnn Ricker of Bonesteel, S.D.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine and Ron Iske of Gretna, and Dorothy and Herb Mittlieder of Omaha; special friend, Marla Matzen and her daughters of Herman; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pauline Cherney; brother, Ray Ricker; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Ricker.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
