Mary Hope Smith, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at her home in Blair.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Mary Hope Anderson was born July 16, 1920, in Elsmore, Kan., to Martin and Zora (Peterson) Anderson. She was known to her friends and family as Hope.

She married Howard E. Smith on Oct. 25, 1942, in Moran, Kan.

The couple lived for many years in Emporia and Topeka, Kan.

She owned her own machine quilting business.

The Smiths moved to Elkhorn and then to Blair to live with their daughter, Diane.

She is survived by her husband, Howard; sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory and Trina of Boca Raton, Fla., and Alan and Louise of Mt. Eliza, Australia; daughter and son-in-law, Anita Diane and James Birrell of Blair; grandchildren: Edward Smith, Kathryn Smith, Rochelle (Doug) Ryden-Campbell and Matthew Birrell; great-granddaughters: Kaylee Murdock and Shawn Campbell.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold, and sister Joy.

Hope was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold; and sister, Joy.
